The Academy of Mining Sciences of Ukraine (AGNU) is a public scientific organization in the field of mining in the city of Krivoy Rog.
Created in February 1991 in the city of Krivoy Rog.
As of 2001, it had 8 specialized and 14 regional branches, 2 scientific centers (Dnepropetrovsk, Donbass), 1 scientific and technological center “Podzemindustriya”, which employs more than 150 full-time and 200 freelance employees, including 134 doctors of science. It has 47 active and 99 corresponding members. Over 10 years, more than 500 research and development works have been completed, the total economic effect from their implementation is more than UAH 1 billion. For the development and implementation of advanced equipment and new technologies, 15 members of the Academy received the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology.
The Academy has a publishing house “Mineral”, which has published more than 30 monographs and textbooks. The journal “Vedomosti of the Academy of Mining Sciences of Ukraine” is published. It is planned to create a department of “Higher Mining and Metallurgical Education”.
As of 2021, there were 250 (+8 honorary) members, including 26 foreign, 114 academicians, 136 corresponding members, 164 doctors of science, 86 candidates of science. It has 3 research and production complexes, 11 collective members.
Maintains contacts with mining scientists in a number of countries around the world.
President – Vilkul Yuri Grigorievich
He studied at the Krivoy Rog Mining Institute, which he successfully graduated in 1973, receiving a diploma of mining engineer with honors.
During his scientific activity, Yu.G. Vilkul published 8 monographs and 120 scientific papers.

He has a UNESCO medal for achievements in the field of science.Awarded the Diploma “Leader of the 21st Century” (2003).
And in 2004, the President of Ukraine awarded him the title of Honored Worker of Science and Technology. Honorary citizen of Krivoy Rog (2010).
